The First United We Can Event: 36 Hours of Music for a Meaningful Cause
A great charity event took place last weekend in Second Life—the very first United We Can Event, a 36-hour non-stop fundraiser dedicated to supporting the KiKa Foundation in their fight against childhood cancer.
Organized by the Echo of Olympus Club, this event brought together an incredible line-up of talented DJ’s, passionate music lovers, and generous supporters from all over the virtual world. Every hour, participants were treated with exciting gifts, making the experience even more engaging.
But beyond the music and fun, the true purpose was clear: coming together for a cause that truly matters, helping children fight cancer and giving them the future they deserve.
For years, Philip, one of the owners of Echo of Olympus Club, has been supporting KiKa through CharitySL.nl. But this year, he took it a step further by organizing the first-ever United We Can Event—a 36-hour music marathon in Second Life to raise funds for children battling cancer. We spoke with Philip about his motivation, his personal journey, and the incredible team that made this event a reality.
Hey Philip, I know you’ve been supporting KiKa for years through CharitySL.nl, but what inspired you to launch this event?
I wanted to be more active, to help more, to do more. Supporting a cause is great, but I felt the need to take action on a bigger scale.
What drives you? Why do you want to do even more?
I lost my mother to cancer. I saw the disease take its toll at every stage, and I was the one caring for her until the very end. She passed away holding my hand. That experience changed me forever. I can’t even begin to imagine what a child goes through in that fight.
That must have been incredibly tough, watching her suffer.
It was. But in the end, she said something that has stayed with me ever since. She told me, “I didn’t raise a son; I raised a knight.” That moment defined me. Since then, I’ve tried to live by that code to help where I can and to make a difference.
That’s incredibly powerful. It’s amazing that you use that as motivation to help others.
I’m not special. The children are. I just try to do my part.
Can you tell us a bit about the incredible people who helped bring this event to life?
I am beyond proud of my crew. Nothing would have been possible without them, especially my wife, Katerina ( also owner of the club ) . They are all kind, dedicated, and passionate people who have supported me from day one. I am honored to call them my friends and family. Katerina, Kalliopi, Nick, Sia, Joa they all worked tirelessly to make this event a success, and not once did they complain.
We were nervous at first, unsure of how people would react, but as soon as we saw their support and enthusiasm, we knew we were doing something meaningful. That gave us hope and even more determination.
Does that mean we can expect a second United We Can event?
Absolutely! We are more passionate than ever and already planning the second United We Can event. We believe in helping others it’s what being human is all about. Sadly, many people seem to have forgotten that, but we haven’t, and we won’t.
Final thoughts?
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed, attended, and supported us. This event wasn’t just about me it was about all of us coming together for a cause that truly matters.
Thank you, Philip! It’s truly incredible what you and your team have accomplished. Your dedication and passion for KiKa and the children fighting cancer are inspiring.
To everyone who contributed, participated, and supported this event efcharistó! Together, we made a difference. And as Philip says, we will not stop.
